Welcome to Shift, where Tom Allen takes you on a daily musical journey from the stalwarts of Classical music to the cutting edge of Contemporary tunes. Join us here on CBC music for a round-up of the stories of the day, some videos of music (or maybe just videos interesting to music fans) and a place to speak your voice.

Feast your eyes on our chart of the four essential things to keep around your house if you want your child to become a musical genius.
Shift investigates the world of Sharing
In our world of instant uploads and file sharing on social media Musicians have to decide how much they really want to share.
Its been happening for hundreds of years. Lutenist Sylvius Leopold Weiss, made a living from playing for the king and went to a lot of trouble to keep his music just for himself. It was his stock and trade.
One modern lutenist who has for want of a better phrase pried the lute manuscripts from Weiss' cold dead hand is Michel Cardin who is happy to share!
John Adams is happy to share his book of dances. They are only alleged dances because they haven't been danced yet. But feel free to practice your steps and share your moves with us. This is the Habanera from "john's book of Alleged Dances"
The Cuica:
Two pop songs that use the Cuica an instrument which sounds like an ape hyperventilating.
Enid - BNL
Me & Julio down by the school yard - Paul Simon
