I don't think it's news to anyone that music sales are not what they once were, well - since about 1999. That's when Napster made its appearance on our computer screens and somehow we all began to think that music was free.

Despite the changes in how we value music, there are artists and record labels still out there hoping to make a living. And on this episode we talk to a few of them. From Nettwerk Records CEO and co-founder Terry McBride who tells me about the past (a new book just released about the label's history, Nettwerk: 25 Years of Music We Love) and his ideas for the future. Brian King and David Prowse of Japandroids talk touring and 7" singles. Bill Baker of indie record label Mint Records talks changing business models.

Also a professor of Economic Philosophy weighs in with an historical perspective. Remember the Industrial Revolution?
