Music! We love it! And so of course we love to see it in it's natural habitat - the rock and roll show. And because bands are so kind, we usually get to see not just one rock band, but several! Thats right, I'm talking about opening bands (or, as we refer to them in da biz, "support bands" - much nicer, don't you think?).
My band has gone on a lot of tours, and we've been lucky enough to be supported by scores of excellent bands (The Arkells, Ra Ra Riot, Meligrove Band, and many many more) and to support a few corkers as well (Weezer, Cold War Kids, Passion Pit, to name a few). And I've been to a whole lot of rock shows and seen all kinds of opening bands, from the excellent to the terrible.
So, whats your take? Do you come early to catch the opening bands? Do you pay attention, or just talk to your friends at the bar while waiting for the main event? Does the quality of the opening bands have any impact on your enjoyment of the concert? What are the best opening band you've ever seen? The worst? The most out of place? So many questions, so little time!
Lets do this!
