Today on The Shumka Chunk: Scaling The Wall of Sound

One of my favourite new sounds is actually a really old sound.  A lot of modern recording artists are embracing their love of the late ’50/early ’60s sound.  It’s the era between Elvis and The Beatles, defined by girl groups, pop symphonies, and the “Wall of Sound.”  That last one was Phil Spector’s trademark echo-chamber sound, and it’s the thing he’s most famous for… if you don’t count the other thing.

Today’s show will celebrate that legendary sound, with modern artists who are able to take us back a few decades.  You’ll hear Gigi, Michael Rault, Louise Burns, Shimmering Stars, as well as others.  We’ll also be visited by an expert on this musical era, my friend Randy.
